Persistence Isn’t Always the Answer, and Pivoting Doesn’t Mean Failure

We're often told to "stay the course" and "never give up" on goals we've set, but that's not what is always needed.

Sometimes, the best decision is to let go of something that no longer serves you.

Other times, the best decision may be to refine your approach.

The challenge is knowing when to pivot or persist.

Here are 3 ways to know if it's time to pivot:

  1. Your goal is no longer aligns with your vision.

  2. Progress has plateaued despite consistent effort

  3. Your goal is based on external expectations and not your own

Here are 3 ways to know if it's time to persist:

  1. You're seeing incremental progress that moving in the right direction

  2. The goal excites and challenges you to get out of your comfort zone

  3. You haven't given it enough time or resources

Where to start:

Ask yourself: does this goal still align with my long-term vision?

Review your progress objectively: are you seeing measurable improvements?

Growth isn't always about sticking to every goal at all times — it's knowing when to adjust and when to stay the course. Take 10 minutes to reflect on a goal—is it time to pivot or persist?
