What Does Success Look Like for You?
For many, success would fall under any one of or all of these categories: time, money, freedom, or flexibility.
For me, it started off with wanting freedom of choice and flexibility in my day.
It was about having a better quality of life.
When I arrived at those moments, I realized how my view of success had changed.
They were no longer points to be sought, but moments to maintain.
And the desire to have them were no longer applicable.
That's when stagnation hit.
I had the things I was searching for, but what do I do now?
Find something else?
Do I set a bigger goal and work towards that?
How do you redefine success when you've achieved the things you were aiming for?
Is it about overcoming difficult moments or having harder-to-reach goals?
I've found that when you can define success that's in alignment with a goal you want to achieve...and one that's slightly out of your reach, but still doable...you feel more motivated to actually go after it.
While those categories (time, money, freedom and flexibility) are nice, they are just the beginning.
Here are some questions to help you get started in creating your definition of success:
If you removed societal expectations, how would you define success?
Whose definition of success are you currently following? (e.g., family, peers, society)
What aspects of your current definition feel misaligned or unfulfilling?
What brings you the greatest sense of joy and purpose?
How much of your current definition is driven by external validation?
How will you know when you’ve achieved the success you want?
If you're up for it, share an answer in the comments. I'd love to see some fresh perspectives.
