SOPs for Solopreneurs: They Aren't Just for Big Businesses

When you find something that works, write it down.

Create a step-by-step guide for completing a specific task or process in your business.

Most of the time, Standard Operating Procedures are usually thought of when big business is mentioned, but small businesses and solopreneurs who want to scale and have team members need them too.

To create your first SOP:

  • Choose a repetitive task

  • Write down each step and action needed to complete the task

  • Test it

  • Save it

  • Update it regularly

Examples of SOPS for small businesses or solopreneurs:

  • Client onboarding SOP: steps for welcoming new clients, sending contracts, sharing project details, communication schedule

  • Social media workflow SOP: your systems for brainstorming, creating, designing, scheduling, and posting.

  • Email management SOP: guidelines for checking, sorting and responding to email inquiries.

  • Weekly review SOP: a checklist for reviewing your progress, setting goals, decision-making, and planning the week ahead.

Your SOPs don't need to be complicated, in fact...keep it simple and easy to digest, so when you're ready to bring on a new hire - they don't think you're unimaginably disorganized.

What's one system you could document today?

If you're not sure, start with the system you'll want your hire to be responsible for.
