Your Legacy as a Leader
...is defined by the lives you touch, the values you uphold and the culture you create.
Every decision, conversation you have and action you take contributes to your story of your leadership legacy.
You're shaping it every single day.
It matters because...
...it will continue to impact others long after you step away.
...the relationships you nurture, the lessons you impart and the culture to help create with shape the future of your team, business or organization.
...it inspires future leaders to step into leadership with the same values, principles and passion your modeled.
Here are ways you can start building your Leadership Legacy:
Clarify your values.
It starts with you. Reflect on what matters most to you as a leader. Write down your top 3 values and think about how they show up in your daily actions and decisions.
Empower others.
Identify one person you can mentor or invest in to help grow them into a future leader.
Focus on long-term impact.
What do you want people to say about your leadership in 5, 10, or 20 years from now. Align your goals and strategies with this outcome.
Lead by example every day.
Your behavior sets the tone for the legacy you want to leave. Commit to one small daily habit that reinforces the leader you aspire to be.
Celebrate others not just results.
Legacy is about people, not just accomplishment. Recognize and celebrate the contributions of others to create a culture of gratitude and collaboration. Write a thank-you note or publicly acknowledge a team member this week.
For You:
Are you intentionally building a legacy that reflects your values and vision, or are you letting circumstances dictate what you leave behind? What's one intentional action you'll take this week to shape the legacy you want to leave?
